およそ1800年前後の江戸時代後期（文化文政期）の建設と推定され、その後、復元されました。
若林氏は、村上藩では物頭（ものがしら）役・150石で中級上位の家柄に属します。
曲屋（まがりや）造りの茅葺（かやぶき）平屋建てで、部屋割りも細かく、典型的な中級武家住宅の特徴を伝えていることから、昭和52（1977）年に国の重要文化財に指定されました。
通称「鶴の松」、「亀の松」を配した庭園も四季折々の風景を楽しめます。

It is estimated to have been built in the early 19th century. It was later restored.
It belonged to a certain Mr. Wakabayashi, who was from a middle-ranking family and acted as an official (and received a hefty salary in return) for the Murakami Domain.
The one-story, thatched-roofed construction was built in the magariya style and is divided into many small rooms. It was designated as a national Important Cultural Property in 1977 because it has all the characteristics of a typical middle-class samurai residence.
The “Tsuru no Matsu” and “Kame no Matsu” pine trees in the garden take center stage in the beautiful scene of the changing seasons.
