南北朝期（1336～1392年）、後醍醐天皇に仕え武勇を誇った楠木正成公の直孫、傑堂能勝（けつどうのうしょう）禅師によって応永10（1403）年に開創された禅宗寺院です。
伽藍諸堂（国登録有形文化財）は江戸中期の再建で、かつての修行道場としての面影を多く残しています。
500メートルにおよぶ参道には、樹齢300〜500年を誇る杉の巨樹（県指定天然記念物）が立ち並び、静謐な雰囲気のなか、訪れる人々の心に癒しを与えています。

This Zen Buddhist temple was founded in 1403 by Zen master Ketsudo Nosho, grandson of Kusunoki Masashige, a great samurai hero who lived from 1294 to 1336.
The Buddhist temple, a national Tangible Cultural Property, was rebuilt around the 18th century and retains many elements of the ascetic exercise hall of the former location.
The 500-meter approach to the temple is lined with giant cedar trees (Prefecturally Designated Natural Monuments) that are 300 to 500 years old, creating a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere for the visitors.
