This Japanese-style hot-spring inn is located in the hot spring town of Iwamuro. After some 260 years, it still exudes the atmosphere of the village headman’s residence of days gone by.
The garden of the main building, which has been designated as a Tangible Cultural Property, features a 10,000-m² bamboo grove that was planted more than 100 years ago. Brown hawk-owls choose to build their nests here because of the rich natural environment of the garden.
This inn has an open-air bath sourced from the waters of the Iwamuro hot spring and boasts an ancient cypress bath.
Traditional Japanese cuisine can be enjoyed for lunch (reservation required), and you can dine while soaking in the history of the room that was used by Emperor Meiji as a rest station.
